The Arts
TheatreThere’s plenty of room for “drama” in Lutheran High’s theatre department. If you enjoy acting and don’t mind real drama, then the Mustang Players could be for you or your student. We average 3-4 shows per year including our TAPPS One Act Play competition piece and a spring play. This year we added a holiday play and are currently rehearsing for another show to be near spring break.
We have competed in TAPPS for three years and have participated at the state meet. Under the direction of Mr. Jamie Martinez, we have produced shows such as “The Diviners”, “Sweet Nothing in My Ear”, “The Adventures of Captain Starblaster” and “Tracks.” The philosophy of Mr. Martinez is that students learn best by being on stage, so many freshman and sophomores get stage time in their first years. A positive attitude and a willingness to listen and learn are key in this program according to Mr. Martinez. And much like many of the other programs at LHS, you can still participate in other programs such as sports as we all work together to make sure the student can have the optimal high school experience. We hope you will consider LHS and our classroom Black Box Theatre to be your new theatre home. Come by to meet Mr. Martinez and take a tour of the Black Box and campus. We hope to see you soon. |
ArtThe art pathway at LHS starts with a basic art class your freshmen year, and allows students to explore painting, drawing, sculpting, ceramics, and AP Studio Portfolio as a capstone during their senior year.

DanceDance is a new program at LHS and helps round out our arts offerings.
Mrs. Curran is our dance instructor and cheer coach and she has has been teaching dance and doing choreography for the past thirty years. She is a former San Antonio Spurs Silver Dancer and has performed abroad with a touring dance troupe. Student in dance class will get to experience and learn ballet, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, Latin, and popular line dances. The class focuses on fundamentals of movement and technique and follows a skills progression to allow students to put together dance combinations. |
