Student Spotlight: Ava Advances to University-Level Research Through "Roots in Research" Program8/15/2025 Lutheran High School is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of junior Ava, who has earned a spot in an advanced university research program through her exceptional work in this summer's Roots in Research initiative.
In June 2025, Science teacher Mr. Schuetze introduced an exciting opportunity to our student body: the Roots in Research program. This intensive summer experience was designed to immerse students in authentic scientific methodology and collaborative research practices. Students worked in teams throughout the program, culminating in a final symposium where they presented their projects to university professors. The program's unique structure offered more than just academic enrichment—it provided a pathway to continued learning. The top two performing groups would have the opportunity to continue their research under the mentorship of university professors in their respective fields. Ava and her research team embraced this challenge with dedication and scientific rigor. Their hard work and innovative approach earned them second place in the competitive program, securing their spot for continued research opportunities. "The Roots in Research program exemplifies our commitment to providing students with real-world learning experiences that extend beyond the traditional classroom," said Mr. Schuetze. "Seeing students like Ava excel and advance to university-level research demonstrates the power of hands-on scientific education." Following her success in the summer program, Ava has begun an exciting new chapter in her academic journey. She is now working remotely with a computer engineering professor based in San Diego, diving deep into advanced engineering concepts that will serve her well in her future studies. Through this mentorship, Ava is developing expertise in several key areas:
Ava's journey from summer research participant to university mentee showcases the transformative power of programs like Roots in Research. Her success serves as an inspiration to current and future Lutheran High School students, demonstrating that with dedication and the right opportunities, academic achievements can open doors to exceptional learning experiences. The Lutheran High School community congratulates Ava on this remarkable achievement and looks forward to following her continued success in computer engineering. Her story reminds us that pursuing excellence with hands-on, real-world learning opportunities builds a firm foundation for our students to make an impact at the highest levels.
