Lutheran High School of San Antonio is always looking to add new extracurricular opportunities for our students, and thanks to a partnership with Spring Creek stables, we were able to launch our Horse Club this year as a way for students to explore horsemanship, responsibility, and outdoor education in a hands-on environment.
The club kicked off with their first session Friday, December 6, and held meetings once a month through May. This innovative program gives students the chance to experience the full cycle of horseback riding—from grooming to saddling to riding. Each session begins with students locating the horse they’ll be working with, gently placing a halter, and leading their horse to the barn. There, they learn how to brush and saddle their horses under the guidance of experienced instructors. Once everything is ready, students head into their riding lesson, where they continue to build skills and confidence. “We’re not just riding horses,” shared club coordinator Mrs. Urban. “We’re learning about patience, leadership, and the bond between humans and animals. It’s a truly unique experience for our students.” Sessions are held at Spring Creek Stables, a professional equestrian facility in the San Antonio area that is fully insured and staffed by experienced personnel. The team at Spring Creek partners with our school to provide a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment for students of all experience levels. We’re grateful to offer opportunities like Horse Club that align with our mission of educating the whole student—mind, body, and spirit.
