Lutheran High School of San Antonio is thrilled to announce that Sierra has been accepted into the highly competitive Voelcker Biomedical Research Academy, a premier program for aspiring young scientists. Sierra is the second student in Lutheran High School to receive this distinguished honor, in just the last few years.
The Voelcker Academy, hosted by the UT Health San Antonio Department of Biomedical Engineering, provides an unparalleled opportunity for high school students to gain hands-on research experience in a professional biomedical lab setting. Selected students work side by side with leading scientists and mentors, contributing to real-world research that impacts human health and medicine. Sierra’s acceptance is a testament to her academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and deep commitment to exploring the world of biomedical science. Known by her teachers for her analytical mind and determination, Sierra has already distinguished herself in the classroom—and now she’ll be bringing that same passion to the lab. Her journey through the Voelcker Academy will span three summers, beginning with foundational biomedical research skills and building toward advanced, independent research. Along the way, she’ll connect with like-minded peers and professional mentors, developing the skills and experience needed to pursue a future in medicine or biomedical research. Sierra’s achievement not only highlights her incredible potential, but also reflects the strength of Lutheran High School’s academic and STEM programs. We are proud to support students like Sierra as they chase big dreams and step boldly into new opportunities. Congratulations, Sierra! Your Mustang family is cheering you on as you take this exciting step into the world of scientific discovery.
