This Sunday, our Lutheran High School Robotics Team served at the Fiesta de los Niños event at Port San Antonio! From 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, our students helped kids drive our popular ring shooter robot, giving children and families an exciting, hands-on look at the world of robotics.
Throughout the day, student not only run robot demos but also work on fixing any minor mechanical issues that arise, showcasing not just their creativity but also their problem-solving skills under real-world conditions. A big thank you to our student and parent volunteers who help supervise and support this event. Events like Fiesta de los Niños allow our students to share their God-given talents, spark curiosity in young minds, and proudly represent Lutheran High School to the wider San Antonio community. Lutheran High School of San Antonio is thrilled to announce that Sierra has been accepted into the highly competitive Voelcker Biomedical Research Academy, a premier program for aspiring young scientists. Sierra is the second student in Lutheran High School to receive this distinguished honor, in just the last few years.
The Voelcker Academy, hosted by the UT Health San Antonio Department of Biomedical Engineering, provides an unparalleled opportunity for high school students to gain hands-on research experience in a professional biomedical lab setting. Selected students work side by side with leading scientists and mentors, contributing to real-world research that impacts human health and medicine. Sierra’s acceptance is a testament to her academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and deep commitment to exploring the world of biomedical science. Known by her teachers for her analytical mind and determination, Sierra has already distinguished herself in the classroom—and now she’ll be bringing that same passion to the lab. Her journey through the Voelcker Academy will span three summers, beginning with foundational biomedical research skills and building toward advanced, independent research. Along the way, she’ll connect with like-minded peers and professional mentors, developing the skills and experience needed to pursue a future in medicine or biomedical research. Sierra’s achievement not only highlights her incredible potential, but also reflects the strength of Lutheran High School’s academic and STEM programs. We are proud to support students like Sierra as they chase big dreams and step boldly into new opportunities. Congratulations, Sierra! Your Mustang family is cheering you on as you take this exciting step into the world of scientific discovery. Lutheran High School of San Antonio is proud to celebrate junior Alexis Holmes—who has been named a FIRST Dean’s List Finalist, one of the highest individual honors awarded in the world of high school robotics.
The FIRST Dean’s List Award recognizes outstanding student leaders who have demonstrated exemplary passion for and effectiveness in achieving FIRST’s mission: to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators. Finalists are selected based on their commitment to personal technical expertise, leadership, and dedication to the ideals of FIRST. Alexis has not only excelled in STEM, but has also consistently embodied the values of perseverance, integrity, and service that define our Mustang community. As a core member of her robotics team, she has taken on key roles and served as a mentor to younger teammates - helping lead her team to success in regional competitions. This year, Alexis was honored with the unforgettable experience of lunch with Dean Kamen, the founder of FIRST and a prolific inventor. She also had the chance to speak with representatives from Yale and MIT, who shared that every FIRST Dean’s List Finalist has a 100% admittance rate to their institutions. It was a moment full of inspiration, possibility, and well-deserved recognition. She also had the unique opportunity to meet with high-level industry professionals from Google, NASA, and Johns Hopkins, including graduate students and FIRST alumni who are making an impact in the world through science and technology. These conversations gave Alexis a glimpse into the future she’s working so hard to build—and the incredible community of innovators she’s now a part of. Alexis's selfless spirit—always seeking to lift others up and serve—is what makes her so special. She stands out not just for what she accomplishes, but for how she empowers others along the way. We are excited to see what the future holds for Alexis as she continues to pursue her passion for innovation and leadership. Congratulations, Alexis—we are so proud of you!
