Why Choose LHS

Lutheran High School of San Antonio (LHS), an accredited college preparatory Christian high school in the Lutheran education tradition, nurtures faith and discipleship and promotes academic excellence to cultivate Christian servant leaders. LHS provides a unique educational environment in which students are empowered to find identity, meaning and purpose for their life in Christ while developing individual talents, skills and attitudes to achieve academically, make thoughtful Christian decisions, and grow in grace and their knowledge of Him.

Accreditation

LHS is regionally and nationally accredited through the Lutheran Schools Accreditation Commission which is recognized by the Commissioner of Education of the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Yearly accreditation evaluations enable LHS to maintain its excellent accreditation rating, and in June of 2008, LHS again received an "excellent" accreditation rating.

God and the Bible are Present in Every Class and Activity

Faith in Christ finds fruitful expression in life by designing Christian education to help the students live a "life of good works" which God has already prepared for them to do (Ephesians 2:10). Students learn to incorporate their faith into every facet of their academic, spiritual and personal development. Whether analyzing poetry in English class or learning teamwork on the athletic field, students are taught to apply the timeless truths of Christianity.

LHS Offers Proven Academic Achievement

More than a third of LHS students score 1200 or higher on the SAT or 24 or higher on the ACT. In recent years, LHS has produced a National Merit Scholar, a National Hispanic Scholar and two National Commended Scholars. Approximately 60% of our seniors who have taken the SAT have scored above the 2007 national average of 1511. In addition to scoring above the national average, the average test score of our students has increased by almost 100 points in the last two years. Additionally, LHS students average 100 points higher on the Test of Achievement and Proficiency (TAP) than public school students nationwide.

LHS Offers a Full Range of Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) Programs

While LHS students can expect to work hard in our regular courses, students ready for an additional challenge have access to honors and AP courses. A wide variety of fine arts courses and electives are also available. Whatever your interests, you’ll find them addressed at LHS.

LHS Staff Members are Highly Credentialed and Care About Each Student

Approximately 75% of our staff - in addition to education certifications, possess or are working on advanced degrees. A small staff to student ratio ensures that teachers know every student personally and can adapt learning to help students reach their academic potential.

LHS Graduates Are Recruited by Top Colleges

Every year, LHS students are recruited by top colleges across America. Our staff Career Guidance Counselor works with each student to prepare them for college entrance exams. Our Career Guidance Counselor will help your family navigate the complicated world of college admissions and financial aid. In addition, LHS students who receive scholarships average more than $20,000 per award.

Students Participate in a Wide Variety of Sports and Extra-Curricular Activities

At LHS, we believe that involvement is one of the keys to an enriching high school experience. For this reason we encourage all of our students to participate in as many extracurricular activities as possible. Whether God has blessed a student with the talent to sing, cheer, act, or compete in athletics or academically, we believe in using these gifts to glorify our Savior. Personal growth means doing the things you are already great at, but also means trying new things to move outside your comfort zone to excel in new ways.

LHS Provides a Welcoming, Friendly, Safe, Academic Environment

In a 24-hour multimedia world where no teenager can be sheltered from the temptations and pressures of growing up, it is important to attend a high school where your family’s Christian values are reinforced. LHS is your ally outside of the family circle. Most staff members are trained in Christian ministry and are issued formal “Ministry Calls” in addition to their education certifications.

LHS attracts students from all over San Antonio and even some from around the world, and our student body reflects a diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds. For all those who attend LHS, they are treated and loved as equal creations of God.
