Spring Service Day!

Friday, April 1st 2011

He is Risen, He is Risen indeed Alleluia! Although we have not officially celebrated Easter we still acknowledge, daily, the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We are children of the resurrection and daily we celebrate and rejoice in the fact that our Savior, Jesus, performed the greatest act of service the world would ever know! He loved us so much that His road of service led Him to a cross where he was able to achieve, through His death and resurrection, the salvation of the entire world. While our acts of service can not save an entire world, they can make a monumental difference in the world. And so we are excited to update you about our second school wide service day.

April 14th is the day set for us to serve the city through a program known as Graffiti Wipeout. We will be departing from school at the normal start time (7:55 a.m.) Students are to report to their first hour class where we will load the buses from there. Students will be divided into two groups and working at two locations. We will return to school around 12:00 p.m. and the students will be dismissed for the day upon our return. Attendance is required; please note that unlike the first quarter service day, the April 14th service day will NOT count as the student’s 2.5 hours due for fourth quarter. Those will still need to be completed as a part of the fourth quarter religion grade (visit edline for service ideas).

Attire for this day should be some kind of LHS t-shirt (Please do NOT wear last year’s green field day shirt) closed toed shoes, and shorts/ pants/ jeans (athletic shorts are acceptable, but must follow skirt length regulations with no holes or tears) Hats can be worn, but must be worn in the proper manner. Note that clothing will likely get dirty and full of paint due to the nature of the service so please plan appropriately. Sunscreen is likewise an important item for students to apply and perhaps bring along for reapplication. Students may want to bring their own water bottles as water will not be provided.

Student have been given a waiver form we need you to fill out for your child if they are under 18. If they are older than 18 they can sign for themselves. Your child is to return this signed form to his or her respective religion teacher prior to April 22nd. If other questions arise, feel free to contact the school or the religion teacher for details.

We as a faculty and staff are really thrilled to be working with such a wonderful group like Graffiti wipeout and even more excited to take our servant hearted students out to the community to show them off. We are confident it will be a rewarding and uplifting time as we near the end of the school year. What better way to jump into spring than by springing into action as we serve the Lord and His people as one large Lutheran High family. Thanks for your encouragement and support of this project.
