GETTING A KICK
OUT OF SOCCER
Your Mustang Soccer team opened their 2007-2008 season
by hosting two ‘SoccerFest’ tournaments on Friday and
Saturday, 24 & 25 August, at the Soccer International
Fields in Schertz. We played seven games in these two
days with shorter halves than our regular season games
will have. Sunburned faces might identify the players
today!
On Friday,
we were humbled, losing to Brentwood [Austin], Holy
Trinity [Temple], Pan American [Kingsville], and San
Antonio Christian. We were humbled in a different way as
the team captains from the other schools voted for LHS
to receive the ‘Team Sportsmanship’ trophy. In addition,
Arron was chosen as one of the five ‘Outstanding
Players’ in this SoccerFest.
On
Saturday, your Mustangs discovered how much fun it is to
put the ball in the back of the net! The first game of
the morning was a 3-1 victory over Believer’s Academy.
Luk scored twice and Matt netted the third goal.
Game number two was a hard-fought come-from-behind
effort against Livingway [Brownsville]. After spotting
them two goals, we managed to tie the game by halftime
with goals by Peter [off an assist from Adam ] and
Luk who finished the passing combination of Peter and JD
With less than a minute remaining, JD took a centering
pass from Adam and finessed the goalkeeper to give us
the 3-2 win.
This put
the Mustangs in the championship game versus First
Baptist [Universal City]. Jacob netted his first goal of
the season on a second half penalty kick to tie the
match, but two late goals in the wrong net gave the
first place trophy to First Baptist. Luk was selected as
LHS’s ‘Outstanding Player’ - a nice birthday gift to our
Swiss teammate.
We’ll keep
you posted on our regular season schedule so that you
can come out to cheer on the ‘Stangs.
