The Lutheran High School website is designed, developed, and updated in large part by the Computer II students.  If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions about how our students may improve the website please contact webmaster@lhssa.org

Lutheran High School is proud of the work, care, and pride our students pour into the website!

Registration Open

Registration for the 2008-2009 school year is in progress.  Reenrollment for returning students is not automatic.  All students must complete the appropriate new student application or returning student application and pay the registration fee of $600.  Students who pay their entire registration fee before April 1st will receive a $100 registration fee discount.  Students whose accounts are in good standing may make a partial registration fee payment at the time they turn in their application, however, the balance of the registration fee must be paid by 4:00 p.m. on March 31st to be eligible for the discount.  Both the registration fee and the application must be turned in.

Lutheran High School anticipates the availability of grant funds for tuition assistance for the 2008-2009 school year.  Awarding of tuition assistance will be based on financial need and the student's academic attitude and success.  Applications are available in the school office or on the Tuition Assistance link on the website.  Our School Code is 1375.  Applications must be postmarked or filed no later than June 15, 2008.

Approximately 60% of our seniors, who have taken the SAT, have scored above the 2007 national average of 1511.  In addition to scoring above the national average, the average test score of our students has increased by almost 100 points in the last two years.

Building Update

The building is coming!  And it's more than a gymnasium.  We will be constructing several other rooms, including 1) art room, 2) choir / band room,

3) biology lab, 4) physics / chemistry lab, 5) weight room, 6) locker rooms, 7) cafeteria, 8) athletic trainer's room and 9) gymnasium.  This is all very exciting as we continue to raise the level of rigor in the education that LHS offers.  Right now there are a number of procedural items happening that don't have a lot of public view.  Civil engineering and structural engineering reviews have already begun.  The contract with PECO Construction Company was signed April 17th.  Final architectural drawings are being prepared.  With this signed contract and architectural drawings the numerous building permits that are needed can now be applied for.  Plans are being made for a groundbreaking ceremony.  A schedule of when actual construction will begin and a completion date are still being finalized.  Please remember that a time table of completion is a "best guess" and many factors outside of PECO's control may move the completion date one way or the other.

The cost for the building is just under $3 million.  We are blessed to have the Greehey family make this donation.  However, funding is still needed to furnish the rooms that are being built.  It will take approximately $700,000 more to furnish the classrooms and gym.  If you are so moved by the Holy Spirit to get involved financially with this wonderful ministry, please contact us at 210-694-4962 to learn more.  Prayers are always welcomed and appreciated as we work together to build God's ministry here at Lutheran High School of San Antonio.

Lutheran High School Receives

$3 Million Dollar Gift!!!

Lutheran High School is proud to announce that we are the recipients of a $3 million dollar gift from Mr. and Mrs. Bill Greehey.  LHS would like to extend our deepest thanks to the Greehey family for their support of the ministry at LHS.  The donation will be used to fund construction of Phase I of the building plan, which will include a double gym, band, art, and science classrooms along with a weight room, locker rooms, and a cafeteria.  Our Lord and Savior has truly blessed Lutheran High School, and we give thanks to all who have been called to be a part of the ministry at Lutheran High School over the past thirteen years.  May the Lord continue to provide and bless the ministry opportunities presented before us in San Antonio.

Since the time I was a young child at the peak of my awesome Lutheran education, my parents prayed and went to planning meetings, prayed some more, raised some money, prayed some more and went to more planning meetings for a Lutheran High School to be built in the city of San Antonio.  Even though I have moved away...I will continue to go back, seek out the teachers that made impacts in my life and gice my support in anyway I can.  I do this because I believe in the Christ-centered goodness of this school.  This [gift] has been another amazing answer to my prayers."

-Megan Abbot Witte (Class of 2002)

From the Faculty

One of the aspects of teaching that I enjoy is the rhythm of the academic year.  We teachers have so much to look forward to- beginning anew every August, journeying with students and colleagues through ten months of skill building and discovery, and evaluating and celebrating each May.  This cycle doesn't truly conclude; even before a school year ends, teachers are busy improving curricula and making plans for the next school year.  The metaphor that I choose t symbolize this rhythm: the circle.

As we teach, we constantly sow seeds, but we are rarely around when the "plants" mature.  At times, students we've taught years before will touch base with us and remind us that our labors have not been in vain.  Just a few weeks ago, I received a graduation invitation from a former student who is graduating from the Baylor School of Medicine in May.  Along with the invitation, he sent a brief note, and one of his sentiments touched me particularly:  "You were more than just our 9th (and 12th) grade English teacher.  You taught us to think about others (at a time when we were very selfish).  You taught us how to think about issues instead of following the crowd."  As a public school teacher, I was hampered from preaching my faith, but each day I tried my best to exemplify Christian values.  An analogy that I choose to represent this rhythm:  Imagine throwing a pebble into a pond and enjoying the ripple effect.

Most importantly, the critical rhythm for me is ongoing throughout life - the rhythm of faith.  Lutheran High School's theme this year has been God's Workmanship, as illuminated in Ephesians 2:8-10:  "For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.  For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."  I am truly humbled and blessed by my opportunity to share in the ministry at LHS, a ministry peopled by selfless colleagues who work tirelessly not only to provide a quality education to young adults, but more importantly to nurture "faith, discipleship, and excellence to the glory of Jesus Christ."  The symbol that I choose to represent this rhythm:  the cross.  Revelation 1:8 reminds us of the time frame for the rhythm of faith:  "I am the Alpha and the Omega,' says the Lord God, 'who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.'"
