Fall Service Day

Wednesday, September 7th 2011

As we live out our theme this year to “Love One Another” we recognize that we have
so many opportunities to be a witness of the great love, mercy and forgiveness God gives us
each day. One of the ways we can witness is through the example of serving. As such, and as
a member of the Lutheran High School family, we will be living out our calling as Christian
servant leaders by participating in a school wide service day. This day is designed to serve as a
model of what your service hours for the year should look like, will fulfill the required 2.5 hours
for 1st quarter (please note this will not be the case for our second semester school service day)
and will be a time where we can represent to the community the servant hearts of our students.

The date set for this is September 16th where we will be building with Habitat for
Humanity. Students should arrive at school, expect a normal start time of 7:55 a.m, and meet in their chapel family groups. We will return to school before the planned 2:00 dismissal time. Lunch will be provided by Habitat, however if you have any special dietary needs you will need to provide your own lunch (we will have coolers of ice to keep lunches cold.)

Attire for this day should be some kind of LHS t-shirt (LHS shirts can be purchased
from any coach), closed toed shoes and shorts/ pants/ jeans (athletic shorts are acceptable, but
must follow skirt length regulations with no holes or tears as are hats provided they are worn
appropriately). Note that clothing has the potential of getting dirty. Some of the students may be
painting or doing work that may permanently soil clothing. Gloves might also prove to be helpful
as well as water bottles. Appropriate hats may be worn, but must be worn in the proper fashion.
Most of the service day will be spent outdoors.

Students will need to fill out a release and waiver form. Please return your signed forms to
your respective religion teacher prior to Sept 16th.

We are very excited to be planning this service day for our students! It is our humbling
mission to teach our students the importance of service and train them in the ways of being a
Christian servant leader. We truly appreciate your support and positive encouragement from
home as we embark on this exciting service to our community! If you have questions feel free to
contact the office or your student’s religion teacher.
